The Great Fire of London Topic Projects: Our topic this half term is The Great Fire of London. In preparation for our topic we researched about The Great Fire that happened in London in 1666 and made models and sketches of Tudor houses.
The Great Fire of London Topic Launch: We had our topic launch at the beginning of Spring 2 where we looked at artefacts from the fire, read books and tried calligraphy.
The Bucket Challenge: We tried to re-enact how people might have tried to put out the fire when it happened using buckets. The bucket challenge gave us an indication of how tiresome it was in 1666 considering there were no fire services and fire equipment available.
Making Tudor Houses: In Design and Technology, we used cardboards, paper, scissors, glue and straw to design Tudor houses. We did our research on what the houses looked like in 1666 and what materials they were built from, beforehand.
Burning Houses: The Tudor houses we made in our DT lesson were set on fire. This helped us understand how the fire spread quickly from house to house and how the weather conditions made the spreading of the fire quicker.
K'z Dance Workshop: K'z Dance workshop came to Cardinal Road School to teach us Bollywood dancing. We danced to the tunes of some trending Bollywood songs. We learnt that it was an amazing way of keeping fit and having fun at the same time.
Easter Celebrations: We had a special Easter dinner at school and made pop-up Easter cards. It was lovely to come to school in coloured clothes. We were visited by the Easter bunny that morning too.
World Book Day: We celebrated World Book Day by coming to school dressed up as our favourite book character and bringing our favourite book to read to the class. We also had some fun activities planned for the rest of the day.
