Addition
When adding 2 or 3 digit numbers we begin by teaching the partitioning strategy. This helps the children to understand what the numbers really mean. Writing the calculation for each step helps the children if they make a mistake, as they can look back through their working out to see how they can correct the error. Children may use Dienes, Numicon and other equipment to support this strategy.
