Kensuke's Kingdom Topic Launch
Our new topic this half term is based on the book 'Kensukes Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo. Please share this book with your child throughout this next half term by visiting the library. We will also be reading it in class.
We started the topic by playing a parachute game which was great fun! It involved sharks, lifeguards and waves. This is just like in the book when Michael travels on the boat the 'Peggy Sue'.
After, we then made up a dance routine using dance ribbons and hoops to show movements of the waves.
Pantomime: Jack and the Beanstalk
We were fortunate enough to have a company come in to perform to us. It was the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk.

RNLI Assembly
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution came to our school and delivered an assembly for us. We learnt all about keeping safe near water and what there job is. In Kensuke's Kingdom Michael went over board so this is a very important topic!

Kensuke's Kingdom Art Work
We have been learning all about the artist Hokusai. In particular his famous print called The Great Wave which inspired the front cover of Kensuke's Kingdom
We then used this to make our own watercolours, print and mosaics. Here are the instructions that we followed for out own prints:
Local Trip: St Lawrence's Church
Year two went for a walk to St Lawrence's Church. We have been learning all about Christianity and the features of a church. What features can you remember? We then used the art skills that we have been learning over the past few weeks from Kensuke's Kingdom to sketch our own church. First we used observational skills, next we drew the outline. Lastly we added the detail and some of us even had a go at shading!
