Gold Class Ghanaian Rainforest Dance
Gold Class have been getting very creative in their dance lessons with Mrs Osei, learning new skills such as extending body parts, changing pathways and looking at varying height and speed.
Their Rainforest dance starts with the stretching leaves and plants, followed by the heavy rain that can fall in Ghana during the rainy season. The second part of the dance moves onto the River Volta with its twists and turns followed by the final section which focuses on the different rainforest animals.
All the class contributed, memorising the many different sections and producing a fantastic finished dance piece. We hope you enjoy it!
Around the World
Our new topic is 'Around the World'. We launched our topic by exploring some of the places around the world. We had to make passports to cross the borders of the different countries we were visiting and we each had an itinerary to follow. We used the skill of measuring with a ruler to draw neat squares for our photo and stamps on our passport.
Can you guess what countries we went too?
Please share your experiences with the children.
Around the World Projects
Many of our children have been to different countries around the world. Their holiday project was to learn about a different country and share with the class. There was a large variety of different countries and the children were all really interested in each others projects. They loved sharing the information and they worked very hard on their projects.
Continents and Oceans
We have been using globes and atlases to explore the continents and oceans of the world. Can you name the 7 continents and 5 oceans?
In year 2 we have been learning all about Sikhism and the 5Ks.

We are focussing on the country of Ghana this half term. We started by researching the country using books, atlases and ipads.
Ask us what we know about Ghana!
We used our knowledge of maps to create our own. We used terminology such as North, East, South and West. We started by looking at the our school grounds and doing a walk around. We then discussed aerial views and drew some pictures of objects from an aerial view.
Next we were able to work in partners and create a map using masking tape. We used our knowledge of the school and maps to create a real life map of our school.
Year 2 had an assembly all about Ghana. We had real life objects and artefacts to look at. We learnt lots of new facts about Ghana which will help us with our writing as we will be writing non-chronological reports.
We have been doing lots of work this term with 2 digit numbers.
We have looked at the tens and units that make up a number and tried to partition it in different ways.
We have been learning lots about different areas of measure. The four areas of measure are:
We have been using lots of different equipment to measure, including scales, metre sticks, rulers and measuring jugs.
What do you measure at home? Do you use your scales for baking? Do you use a measuring jug when adding liquids to your cooking?
We have been learning about some of the standards units for measuring, including
What units of measure do you use at home?
In PE this term we have been practising our gymnastics skills. We have loved exploring different shapes we can make with our bodies and holding different balances. We really enjoyed taking out the large apparatus and exploring at different heights.
Displays around the school
We have been busy changing our corridor displays. They are all based on the work we have been doing in class.

Christmas is coming!!!!
It's December and the hoops and trees are going up. Thank you to all the children and families who decorated a hoop for us. They really cheer up the walkway and hall.
Christmas Tree Decorations
Every year Cardinal Road School enters a Christmas tree competition with the local church. This year we all got loo rolls to decorate to be put on the Christmas tree. We painted, glued and put glitter all over them to create a decoration.
Purple class made candles.
Silver class made Christmas trees.
Gold class made penguins.
