Our new topic is 'Around the World'. We started the day by designing and making passports because we were going to be travelling around different countries.
Next we made food from each country to share with the rest of the year group. The skills we used were: chopping, cutting, mixing and weighing.
In the afternoon we travelled around the classrooms to visit different countries. Can you guess what countries we went too?
In year 2 we have been learning all about Sikhism and the 5Ks.
The 5Ks are:
We had a school trip to the Gurdwara. We got to look at some of the key features. We even got to share food in the Langar!
We are focussing on the country of Ghana this half term. We started by researching the country using books, atlases and ipads.
Ask us what we know about Ghana!
We used our knowledge of maps to create our own. We used terminology such as North, East, South and West. We started by looking at the our school grounds and doing a walk around. We then discussed aerial views and drew some pictures of objects from an aerial view.
Next we were able to work in partners and create a map using masking tape. We used our knowledge of the school and maps to create a real life map of our school.
Year 2 had an assembly all about Ghana. We had real life objects and artefacts to look at. We learnt lots of new facts about Ghana which will help us with our writing as we will be writing non-chronological reports.
In maths we have been focussing on measure. The four areas of measure are:
Year 2 got to use scales, metre sticks, rulers and measuring jugs. We even got to use non-standard units of measure to find out the capacity of our shoes!
Christmas Tree Decorations
Every year Cardinal Road School enters a Christmas tree competition with the local church. This year we all got loo rolls to decorate to be put on the Christmas tree. We painted, glued and put glitter all over them to create a decoration.
Purple class made candles.
Silver class made Christmas trees.
Gold class made penguins.
