‘Creating Opportunities’

Autumn 1

Welcome Year 2!

Hello and welcome to the new Silver, Purple and Gold classes! We look forward to meeting you all very soon. To learn more about your class teachers please have a look in the 'Meet the Team' section on the website.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

Year 2 would like to thank you for supporting their coffee morning.  The event raised £201.31.  Well done everybody, it is a very worthwhile cause.

Fit for Life

Our first topic is Fit for Life. We started off by learning all about the Olympics and how they started. We then split in to 3 teams to compete as a country. We made flags and learnt all about those countries.

Can you guess the countries from the colours and flags below?

At the end of the day we had a special assembly called a 'closing ceremony' where we got presented with awards. What did your country win?

As part of our topic we invited a Judo instructor in to demonstrate Judo. Each class was lucky enough to take part in a workshop.

One of our school's aims and values is to show respect. During the Judo we learnt that this was also a key value as well.

Below are some photos of the workshop:

Aim and Value

Our aim and value this half term is to 'Be Kind'. We have been doing lots of work in class about how we can be kind to one another. In our classrooms we have a 'Be Kind' display.

Some ways we could be kind are:

  • playing with our friends
  • listening
  • making good choices
  • helping others
  • give hugs
  • cheering people up

Maths Workshop

We invited our parents and carers in to share maths games with us. This is to promote our love of learning! Can you spot your mum or dad?

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We will be holding a coffee morning on Friday 27th September 2019. In our classes we all made cakes to sell and we hope to raise lots of money for Macmillan. Below are some pictures of us making the lovely cakes.

Chartwells Workshop

We had a real chef come in and help us make some snacks. As we are a Healthy School the snacks were all healthy. We designed them before hand, made them and then evaluated them.

Year 2 made spooky snacks! We got to use lots of cooking skills.

Don't they look tasty!

Black History Week

To celebrate Black History week we had a drumming workshop. We learnt how to hit the drum correctly using the heel of your hand and the palm to create different sounds. Year 2 learnt some African songs and we sang using 'call' and 'response'.
